Police in Queens, New York have arrested a man for allegedly threatening to kill Republican congressional candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The man, whose identity has not been released, allegedly made the threat via social media. According to the NYPD, the suspect sent a tweet that read “I will murder Vivek today”.
The man was charged with one count of suborning falsely reporting an incident, a class E felony, according to a press release from the Queens District Attorney’s Office. If convicted, the suspect could face up to four years in prison.
Ramaswamy has been the target of multiple threats since announcing his candidacy. He recently reported being followed and harassed, and filed a complaint with the police. Police have increased their presence near his campaign office.
The suspect in these latest threats is being held pending arraignment, and the investigation is ongoing.
