Top Dem committees are raking in millions more in dark money at this point in time compared to previous cycles

At present, dark money donations to top Democratic committees in this election cycle are on track to exceed previous years by millions of dollars. According to research from the Center for Responsive Politics, donations from dark money organizations to top Democratic and Republican committees have already surpassed the amount raised in the entire 2018 cycle. So far in 2020, dark money has accounted for roughly $190 million out of the more than $3.3 billion dollars that top Democratic and Republican committees have raised. Contributions from dark money groups to Democratic committees in particular have continued to grow exponentially—from $2.9 million in 2008, to $7.4 million in 2012, to nearly $100 million in 2018, and $130 million as of this writing in 2020.
