The Biden campaign is reportedly weighing whether to join TikTok as part of its efforts to reach young voters in the 2020 presidential election.
The Biden team may be reconsidering joining the social media platform despite the Trump administration’s orders to purge it from all federal devices over security and privacy concerns, according to CNN.
The Biden campaign is reportedly aware of the administration’s decision but is considering using TikTok, which has 100 million monthly active users in the U.S., to reach young voters since political campaigns have found success in the past using the platform.
TikTok has become increasingly popular amongst younger generations, allowing them to create and share 15-second videos of themselves lip-syncing, dancing, and creating comedy skits. The social media company has also recently become increasingly involved in the 2020 presidential race, hosting a series of events with the Democratic National Committee on registering voters and hosting an exclusive Q&A with Joe Biden.
If Biden’s campaign decides to join, it will be interesting to see how the campaign uses the platform to reach and engage with young voters in this unconventional political cycle.
