The recent uptick in President Donald Trump’s approval rating is a surprising development, especially in light of the tumultuous events of his first term. It’s unclear why the president’s public perception has shifted so significantly, but some political analysts point to a sense of amnesia among the American public with regards to the events of his early presidency. While it’s possible Americans are giving the president the benefit of the doubt, it could also mean that the public has simply forgotten or glossed over the previous controversies and issues associated with the Trump administration. This could also be an indication of the efficient use of political spin from the administration and its supporters, who may be successfully manipulating the media and public opinion to paint an improved image of the president. Whatever the cause of this shift in perception, it is clear that President Trump has seen an improvement in the polls—whether through approval or amnesia.
