In response to criticism against his authoritarian behavior, President Trump has attempted to deflect and spin the criticism to make it look like it is meant for his 2020 presidential election opponent, Joe Biden. He has tweeted that Biden and the Democrats are trying to “infringe on the sacred rights of the American Voter,” and also accused Biden of pushing for a “rigged election” and of wanting to “end the right to vote.” He has tried to create a false incentive for his supporters, claiming that Biden will reduce the rights of citizens and take away their freedoms. In doing so, he is attempting to shift the focus away from his own anti-democratic actions and on to his opponent.
