The Government of Canada is warning LGBTQ travelers to be aware of the risks and implications when travelling to the United States due to some state laws which may be hostile to the rights of LGBTQ people. Canada’s Department of Global Affairs recommends those planning travel to the US research the laws of the destination states and stay abreast of any updates or changes to those laws. The department urges travelers to arm themselves with information on their rights and get support in advance of travel, if needed. The Department encourages travelers to consider carrying documents which reinforce their relationship status and to take precautions if there is any risk in revealing their sexual orientation or gender identity.
