Top Libyan officials detained in investigation into deadly floods

In October 2020, several high-ranking officials were detained in Libya following an investigation into the deaths of numerous people due to deadly floods that hit the country. The people taken into custody for questioning included the Mayor of Tripoli, the Deputy Minister of Works, the chairman of the Tripoli municipality, the Director General of the Libyan Civil Protection Authority, and the manager of a construction company which was working on an area of the city at the time of the floods. The arrests came after a deadly storm hit the country resulting it heavy rain and flooding which killed at least 42 people.
