On Jan. 6, 2021, a former Virginia School Board candidate was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including assaulting a police officer, for his involvement in the unrest at the U.S. Capitol. The 45-year-old man was accused of attacking multiple U.S. Capitol Police officers during the riot, as well as throwing objects and attempting to break through police lines. He also allegedly attempted to scale the wall of the Capitol building and pushed a crowd control barrier at police officers. He faces 14 criminal charges, including eight counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of civil disorder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and three counts of interfering with police during a civil disorder.
