Trump lawyers say request to have SCOTUS hear immunity claims presents ‘momentous, historic questions’

President Donald Trump’s legal team has argued that the request for the Supreme Court to hear immunity claims presents us “with momentous, historic questions of transcendent importance” due to the potential for the Court’s decision to lead to the “collapse of constitutional government” as we know it. They argue that allowing the current proceedings to move forward could render the president powerless against “attacks originating outside of the political branches” and thus compromise “the constitutional order.” The lawyers further argue that the Court’s decision has the potential to be far-reaching and consequential, and thus, merits a hearing.
