Israel-Gaza war consumes Biden’s attention

The Israel-Gaza war has undoubtedly consumed President Biden’s attention as the conflict continues to worsen. Biden and his administration have actively worked to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in recent days. Biden and Secretary of State Blinken have both spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, as well as Egyptian and other regional leaders, in an effort to push for a cessation of violence. Meanwhile, the White House has consistently made clear that Biden supports Israel’s right to defend itself.

Further, on May 19th, the Biden administration announced that they were providing $120 million in aid to the Palestinians in a bid to alleviate humanitarian suffering and promote security and stability. In addition to this, the US is pushing for an immediate ceasefire and a return to the negotiations for a two-state solution.

Given the immense gravity of the situation, it is clear that Biden’s attention has been fully caught by the conflict in the Middle East. As the situation continues to deteriorate, the US and President Biden will continue to be an active participant in trying to bring an end to the violence.
