Vice President Joe Biden and the White House have not publicly responded to reports that his son, Hunter Biden, has defied a congressional subpoena.
Hunter Biden is the subject of an ongoing inquiry by the Republican-led Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which is probing his business activities in Ukraine and China. The committee issued a subpoena to Hunter Biden on Oct. 9 requesting documents and records related to his business dealings with both countries.
When pressed on the matter during his public engagements, Biden has consistently refused to address the subpoena and Hunter Biden’s alleged refusal to comply. During a rally for President Donald Trump’s reelection in Pennsylvania, Biden was asked by a reporter if he would discuss the matter. Biden reply was simply that the rally was about the president’s reelection campaign.
The Biden campaign has generally avoided commenting on the matter, directing all questions to Hunter Biden’s attorneys. In separate statements, both Biden and his campaign have said that they believe in the rule of law and will respect the enforcement of the subpoena if it is ultimately enforced.
