The newly-discovered seamount in Guatemala is an incredible 6.3 km (3.93 mi) tall, making it nearly twice the height of the world’s tallest building, the 830-m (2,722-ft) Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The giant seamount, named Benejúder Seamount, was discovered by a team of scientists using a type of sonar imaging used to detect features on the seafloor. The discovery was recently published in the journal Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems.
