On May 29, 2021, a large explosion took place near al-Shati refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, injuring at least 30 people, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
According to the Palestinian media, the incident apparently unfolded after two fuel tanks in a car exploded near a hospital in the Gaza Strip.
The explosion occurred close to the al-Shati refugee camp in western Gaza and caused chaos and panic in the area.
The exact cause of the explosion is still unknown, but Palestinian officials have suggested that it was an accidental detonation of an explosive device used to confiscate illegal fuel.
The number of casualties is expected to increase.
Israel has denied any involvement in the incident and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that there was “no projectile fire from Israel into the Gaza Strip this evening.”
Palestinian authorities are still investigating the incident.
This is the latest in a series of incidents that have occurred in both the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the Israeli-controlled West Bank in recent months.
The tensions between the two sides have been on the rise since the start of the 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas in May 2021.
