President Donald Trump has made an inaccurate and unfounded claim that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declined his offer of 10,000 National Guard troops ahead of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
The Washington Post Fact Checker investigated the claim, and concluded that no such offer was made. The White House, the National Guard, and Pelosi’s office all confirmed that there was no such offer. Furthermore, the Pentagon and Justice Dept. had already provided over 6,000 National Guard troops ahead of the Capitol riots.
Trump’s baseless claim is another example of the former president’s attempts to blame Pelosi for the Capitol unrest, while avoiding accountability for his own role in inciting violence.
