On Thursday, the House of Representatives voted to kill the Pentagon’s controversial policy that restricts the use of funds for abortion care for service members and dependents. The policy was enacted in 2017, and prohibited the military health system from providing abortion services, even in cases of rape or incest, unless the mother’s life was at risk. There was bipartisan opposition to the policy, with 218 lawmakers voting to repeal it. The repeal is now headed for the Senate, and is expected to be voted on in the near future. If approved by the Senate, the repeal would permanently end the policy.
