On October 20, 2020, a capsule carrying a sample of the asteroid Bennu from NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission landed in the Utah desert in the United States. The capsule, which was about the size of a small washing machine, contained a sample from the asteroid that was collected during a mission that was initiated back in 2016. The sample returned to Earth is the largest sample from an asteroid ever collected by a spacecraft and will help scientists learn more about the origins of the solar system and life on Earth. Scientists hope that this sample will provide further insight into asteroids and the origins of life.
