Colorado Republican Dave McCormick has officially launched a campaign to run for the state’s vulnerable Senate seat. McCormick, a Colorado native and former Army Reserve officer, launched his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent Michael Bennet earlier this month, signaling his intent to help the Republican Party maintain control of the Senate in November’s election.
“I am running for the U.S. Senate because I want to ensure future generations have a safe and prosperous Colorado,” McCormick said in a statement. “Washington, D.C. is broken and has become too partisan and too focused on its own interests. We deserve a Senator that will prioritize Coloradans’ needs and work to unite a broken Congress and divided government.”
McCormick has served as the Deputy Undersecretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture under President George W. Bush, as well as serving as President and CEO of the Centennial State Solutions Group and previously, as an economic adviser at the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. He has also worked in numerous high-level roles within the Colorado’s business community.
McCormick has campaigned on conservative ideals of smaller government and limited intervention, and has pledged to reduce wasteful government spending, identify cost-saving measures for federal programs, and remove bureaucratic regulations that stifle business growth. He also advocates for increasing job creation and economic growth by supporting lower taxes and repealing over reaching government regulations.
McCormick’s run for the Senate seat is helping to make Colorado a politically important state in the upcoming election. The race is likely to be one of the closest of the 2020 election cycle and could help to tip the balance of power in the Senate.
