Trump has denied knowing anything about the indictment but at a press conference at the White House last Monday, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany addressed the matter for the first time. She said that the White House was aware of the charges against Hunter Biden but declined to comment further.
She said that it was a ” hypothetical” for the moment and that it was a matter for the Justice Department to consider. She then went on to say that it is not something that the President has considered.
Hunter Biden was indicted in late December by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York. He is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of false statements. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if or when Hunter Biden could face additional charges.
