The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University has asked the Supreme Court to postpone limits on the White House social media policy that were scheduled to take effect on September 14. The policy limits what types of content people can request from the White House via social media, as well as the amount of information they can receive in response. The Institute argues that the policy restricts citizens’ constitutional right to petition the government for grievances. The Institute also claims that the policy is overly broad and discourages people from engaging with the government via social media. The Supreme Court has yet to decide if it will take up the case.
