Meta’s Next Move Could Set the Tone for Tech Giants

October 21, 2026 2 min read

The eyes of Wall Street are turning toward October 21 as a potential tipping point for the current bull market. After three years of artificial intelligence driving the S&P 500 to unprecedented heights, the initial euphoria surrounding chipmakers and cloud providers has begun to meet a layer of skepticism. While early adopters saw massive gains through companies like Nvidia and Alphabet, recent headwinds have shifted the conversation from pure possibility to actual profitability. Investors are now questioning whether the astronomical amount of money being poured into AI infrastructure will eventually translate into sustainable revenue.

Much of this tension centers on Meta Platforms, which is scheduled to release its third-quarter earnings after the market closes on Monday. As the first of the Magnificent Seven tech titans to report this season, Meta serves as a bellwether for the entire sector. While social media advertising remains the company’s primary engine, Mark Zuckerberg has pivoted aggressively toward AI, investing billions in data centers and specialized talent. This shift has pushed Meta’s capital spending-to-revenue ratio to roughly 35 percent, leaving some shareholders nervous about whether these costs are becoming too burdensome relative to the returns.

However, there are signs that Meta is beginning to crack the code on monetization. The recent launch of its personal AI agent, Muse, saw record download numbers and introduced subscription options for power users. When analysts dive into Tuesday morning’s trading session, they will be hunting for evidence that these tools are moving beyond novelty and into genuine profit generators. If Meta can prove that its heavy spending is fueling tangible growth, it could trigger a broad rally across all AI-related stocks. Conversely, any sign of stagnation could signal a cooling period for the broader market as other tech giants prepare to reveal their own books in the following days.
